Description
The Apple Tree – Charlevoix. This magnet measures 2 inches by 3.5 inches. The image is a reproduction of a painting “The Apple Tree – Charlevoix”.
The Apple Tree art gallery and gift shop was a really unique shop in downtown Charlevoix in the 1980’s until the owner Mike Holmes retired and the building was torn down. The pieces were moved and reassembled to a new location in 2003. Originally the building was built by Earl Young and housed his Real Estate office. I visited the gallery often to visit Mike and to purchase gifts for others and art for my own collection. I was sad to see this iconic store leave our community as I know many of our visitors returned year after year to shop there. I was happy however that someone saw value and had the historic insight to save the structure and reassemble it even if it isn’t in it’s exact form. It is now a cute vacation cottage on an alley off Michigan Avenue. It has all of Earl’s character yet has been given an update of modern conveniences. This painting is a study for a scene I did on “Charle-fish” for the Great Northern Fish-In sponsored by the North West Michigan Red Cross as a fundraiser. It is acrylic on fiberglass.
