Description
This magnet measures 2 inches by 3.5 inches. It is a reproduction of a painting I did of the famous Charlevoix Drawbridge that goes up on the hour and the half hour during daylight hours in the summer. Locals have a love hate relationship with it. No one likes to get “caught by the Bridge” and everyone times their trips to town on the quarter and three quarter hour. The running joke is someone is going to be late and make a death defying leap running up the bridge after it has already raised just to get across. Sometimes the traffic is backed up past Don’s (the old IGA grocery) on the North Side and the Holiday Gas Station and even the McDonald’s on the South Side. It will clear out slowly when the bridge goes down but no one likes to wait and if there is foot traffic downtown, the one light adds to the congestion. Oh the fun of summer in a resort town! The Bridge is one of the things that brought my family to Charlevoix in the late 70’s. We were vacationing in Grayling at my Aunt and Uncle’s. My Aunt said, “You HAVE to see this cute little town… it even has a drawbridge!” (to make it interesting to an early teen). We made the road trip over and my parents fell in love with Charlevoix. Two years later, we moved from Ohio… I’ve been here ever since.
