Description
Charlevoix Lighthouse Garden Note Card. The Charlevoix Lighthouse Garden is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas it is done primarily with a brush but I accented it with a palette knife. There is a beautiful, well tended garden at the top of the hill on the corner of Park and Grant Street as you round the corner to go down to the Michigan Beach hill to the park area. As you look out to the right on Park Avenue before you turn, you see the lighthouse. It appears nestled amongst the flowers if you are at the right angle. I did this from of a combination of several photos as a painting demonstration when I was the “Artist in Action” at the Charlevoix Public Library. I tried to show working from a few photos, composition, elimination of unwanted things like telephone poles and wires, and brush and palette knife techniques. I rarely work in front of an audience but it was fun. I did however have to take the painting back to the studio to finish, tweak and generally “fuss” over it before I considered it officially “done”. It is sort of like a dog trying to get comfy in a bed. He goes round and round and fusses until it is “just right”. I have to actually sign the painting to make myself quit working on a painting and call it done. I have a rule… once it is signed, don’t go back and mess with it!
