Description
The Charlevoix Yacht Club Magnet. This magnet measures 2 inches high by 3.5 inches wide. It is hand cut and hand assembled especially for you! The image is a reproduction of the illustration painting “The Charlevoix Yacht Club”, a pen and ink illustration on hard board with a full color watercolor painting washed over it. This rendering was commissioned as a wedding present and the couple has the original hanging in their new home.
The Story Behind the Art
The Charlevoix Yacht Club has a new home! They just finished this amazing new building in 2021. My husband and I watched as the construction of the building progressed. We watched by driving by on Ferry Road on our traditional “daily” drives around town and also from the water from our boat. It was shaping up to be a beauty. I told Jim I definitely wanted to paint it as soon as I could. Watching the club members sail in Lake Charlevoix on Wednesday nights and in Round Lake on Sundays is a beautiful and inspirational sight. I always want to paint them! Plus I know some of the members so that makes it interesting for me too.
Working on these tightly rendered drawings are very enjoyable though they are much harder now that I am older. I find that I cannot see as well as I once could so close up detail causes eye strain. Also, the use of the pen and mechanical tools for all the fine lines makes the arthritis act up in my hand. Boy do I sound old!!! They are much harder to do than a regular painting so I don’t do them often. So they are becoming pretty rare. But when I do do one, you can see the passion and love of art in them. This one turned out especially nice because I knew the young lady who was getting married and wanted to create something magical for her. If there is a personal connection or, if I really like the view, scene or landmark, the piece turns out to have a glow about it. Maybe my inner happiness is showing!
